Modern beds come in a variety of styles and have gained much popularity in recent years. With the explosion of loft style condos that are often more sleek and contemporary than those of years ago, furniture styles have also changed to fit the spaces, providing many versatile looks.
Modern beds with platform bed frames are very much in demand these days. They are generally not as high as metal bedsteads and most of them merely require a mattress without a box spring. There are ones which rest upon a box-like surface and others which have the traditional legs.
Most beds continue to be made in the usual sizes of king, queen, full, and twin. However, the new California King size is made in large quantities today. Many people prefer extra room in their beds, either because they are very tall or because they simply want more room to stretch out.
A King size platform bed can make a 'big' impression in a room. With its lower profile, it adds to a sense of clean, open and expansive spaces. When other contemporary pieces such as night stands and chests are kept to a minimum, the entire room will reflect the present-day fashion popular in lofts and warehouse apartments everywhere.
Contemporary bedding comes in an assortment of finishes. There are wooden frames and ones made of metals. They can be finished with stain, paint, lacquer, or upholstery fabric. They can also have built-in drawers for extra storage in the bedroom. It's your choice as to whether you want a headboard, a foot board, side rails and/or the legs we discussed earlier.
The owner of the room and the style of the room decide the linens to be used. You may choose to use solid silk coverlet on the bed. As it is neatly tucked in and you have a single pillow or two on bed it is fantastic. Again if you go the traditional way with comforter, bed pillows and throw pillows, they all go very well with modern beds.
So choose yours carefully. You'll probably use it and the mattresses for the next decade or so. Local design galleries and department stores have many styles to choose from, or, if you have the time and energy, you'll find thousands online from which to sift through (and you'll certainly need a good night's rest after that).
