From elementary school to college course, games help reinforce the principles taught in these classes. Several ideas from a college economics class, like comparative advantage and trade for example, are used throughout the game Settlers of Catan. Just like discussed in a middle school history class, the colonization of the Americas by different civilizations is brought to life in the board game Age of Empires. Games with their own currency, like Alhambra or Monopoly, help reinforce the elementary school math of counting money for young children. Anatomy is taught for the youngsters in games like Somebody and Operation. U. S. Geography is tackled extensively in the game Ticket to Ride, while many others like Pandemic take on that of the world. English is addressed in so many games, like Quiddler, especially in reconstructing and creating words. Even Italian can be learned in a game like Bang! where each card is written with Italian and English. A simple game on thinking on the future and making plans and goals (which is what school prepares students to do) is that of Life, which requires decision making and dealing with some of life’s unexpected turns. Of course the best learning happens in the classroom, but these games can help gamers practice the principles taught in class.

Super hero toys like Transformers, Star Wars characters, and Spider-Man are adored by children all over. But children should not forget about true heroes, like Esther, Paul and Moses. Toys are now available to aid kids get to know better the prophets and heroes of the Bible. This way, kids can better understand and even act out inspiring stories like David & Goliath and Daniel in the Den of Lions. There are toys made of stories in the New Testament too, like Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand, and a children’s Nativity. There are specific figurines as well, of people such as Samson, Peter and Mary. These toys are great to keep children occupied during a restless worship service. They also really help children identify who is who in the Bible and their stories.

Sharing your religious values with your children is so important, and yet can be difficult. Of course nothing can replace Church services and studying the scriptures. There also exist many other forms of bringing in gospel learning to your household. For example, children can learn about many scriptural stories and ideas through Christian-based games. These games help open the way for great teaching opportunities. It is not infrequent that children ask parents more about an idea or value presented with the game. The children also tend to remember principles and stories better when it is taught in a creative, interactive way. Children who play Christian games tend to have a deep desire to discover more about the values that are most precious to you.
Family Games versus Online Gaming
In this day and age, many things call for our attention, and we have to decide wisely how we wish to use our leisure time. Children and adults alike have trouble deciding whether to use their time playing online games or playing games with one another. However, there are many more positives that come out of playing a game with the family versus playing an online game. For one, family games allow everyone to interact, whereas online gaming requires a computer per player and most family members will not be able to get in on the fun. Within family games real interactions take place that allow for feelings of true bonding, whereas in online gaming, the relationships are often as virtual as the game itself. Family games are light-hearted and wholesome but online gaming tends to be violent and regard other crude subject matter. Games played with the family usually involve learning and pushing the brain but online games rarely require such mental exertion. Many people become addicted to online gaming because it does not have a finite end. Hours, days, weeks, even months of life are lost this way. Family games have a defined beginning and end so the family can decide if they wish to play again or move on to another activity. More memories tend to be produced with family games and even pictures and videos are taken to remember the occasion. Similar things of such significance do not occur with online games. Online games lead to additional costs, like monthly fees and costly expansions, that family games do not subject gamers to. Although online games might seem easier to do during our leisure time, it is clearly not as beneficial for ourselves or our families as family games are.
