The easiest way to move home is to be prepared, and by this I mean to list and gather the best home moving equipment before your moving in day arrives, to be completely ready for anything that comes your way.
Firstly you will need to decide on the items that are most of value and perhaps the most fragile. Then head out to purchase some bubble wrap, tissue paper, foam, polystyrene shapes to ensure that when the items are being transported, there’s no chance of any damage.
Next, take a look at the size of your items. Are they large, medium, awkward shaped?. After deciding this its then time to grab some removal boxes. Your moving boxes should be secure and as they are mostly used to carefully protect any items travelling from house to house, cardboard is the most beneficial material to use in comparison to awkward or heavier materials such as plastic or polystyrene. It also means the boxes can be kept for other purposes and easily fold away into your garage etc until needed in the future.
Next, grab a tape dispenser and vinyl sealing tape. Purchasing tape in different colours is a brilliant idea to keep your boxes in check throughout the move. You could use yellow for the kitchen, blue for the bedroom and green for your living room, and either way there’s minimum chance of a mix up with colours.
Markers are also a good source of coordination. The different colours mean you can associate different rooms and items more easily and quickly then you would using black and white. However, make sure the markers are thick tipped, rather than thin so it is easier to write bigger letters and clearer words on your boxes and parcels.
For larger items of furniture such as sofas etc it may be a good idea to get hold of some upholstery covers. You can also purchase paper mattress sacks and padded paper covers to ensure a safe journey for your furnishings and it maybe a good idea to unwrap these last once they have arrived at your home as to minimise any risk of damage.
If you’re thinking of transporting some large items yourself as to save money with the removal firms, make sure that you have strapping and equipment if you have decided to transport the items on the roof of your car. Make sure the equipment is professional too, as homemade things can be a little unreliable.
